Dublin Ultimate Frisbee Summer League introduces a small sport to new players
Co. Dublin - 16 June 2010 - The first week of the Dublin Ultimate Frisbee Summer League will start in Herbert Park on Monday the 21st June. The league is specifically for people to try out a new and growing sport in Ireland.

Dublin Summer league, now in its 5th year, has opened sign ups for its weekly league games in Herbert Park.

The league is open for all to play in, from beginners to seasoned veterans. When players sign up, a team will be picked out of a hat for them, and they will play for that team each week. Teams are of mixed gender.

The league will run from the 21st of June to late August. A player fee of €10 is charged, for which players get a game every week and hot food afterwards. All profits from the League will go towards the costs of the Irish national team, representing the country in Florence at the under 23 world championships.

On the 28th of June, an introduction to Ultimate Frisbee will be run for new players to teach them the basics of the sport, with coaching from the national squad.

Dublin Summer League is a good way to get active over the summer months in a casual and friendly environment, and one may even make a new friend or two at it.

What Ultimate Frisbee is
Ultimate Frisbee is a non-contact team sport which originated in the USA, but is now played all over the world. It is played on a 100x37m pitch, with two 18m deep end zones.

In this seven-a-side sport, players cannot run with the Frisbee, but have 10 seconds to pass to one of their team-mates in order to keep possession for their side. A point is scored when a player catches the Frisbee in the end zone.

A unique aspect of Ultimate Frisbee is that players are expected to referee themselves. If a player is fouled, he is expected to call his own fouls. Every player is responsible for their own conduct on the field.

At high levels, the sport blends speed, agility and fitness without losing a strong ethos of fair-play, which is a refreshing change from the unsporting actions in Football games.
